When I started my bachelor in journalism almost a decade ago, we were often told that we had chosen the wrong profession if we were wishing for a stable and well-paid job. We were also told that it was a competitive industry and that we would have to give it all if we wanted to build a career in a newsroom.

All of that was and still is, true. While the journalism industry has been changing rapidly and new skills are required, the core of the profession is the same, and breaking into the field remains a difficult task.

At the European Journalism Centre, we support and build resilience into journalism in many ways.

Our programmes have benefited a wide range of professionals and organisations, from newsroom managers to freelance reporters or new media funders. But this year we’re also putting a strong focus on a key community within our industry: those who will soon be the next generation of journalists.

Innovation needs a network to thrive. With this tagline, four months ago we introduced the News Impact Network, the third and newest initiative of the News Impact ecosystem.

We have selected a cohort of sixteen talented media professionals from across Europe and in the past four months we have been working with them with a clear goal in mind:
